Chemical Process Engineer
Univertical LLC is looking for a Chemical Process Engineer for our Angola facility. Univertical has been serving the worldwide plating industry since 1938 with the highest quality, highest purity, and best customer service. Our high-purity anodes, high-purity chemicals are in use all around the globe.
SUMMARY: As a Chemical Process Engineer, you will play a critical role in supporting operations and driving improvements in the chemical production department. You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and optimizing batch processes of inorganic chemistries. Your primary focus will be ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operation of production equipment, while applying engineering principles to troubleshoot issues, optimize workflows, and support new process development and equipment upgrades.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Process Design & Development:
- Develop, scale, and implement chemical processes for batch operations involving inorganic chemistries of copper and nickel.
- Identify, evaluate, and implement process improvement to increase efficiency, reduce waste, and improve product quality.
- Assist with design, specification, and installation of new process equipment.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives in process engineering.
- Operations Support & Troubleshooting:
- Provide daily support for production operations, ensuring safe and consistent process performance.
- Apply structured problem-solving and root cause analysis methods to resolve out of control processes, equipment malfunctions, and quality concerns.
- Develop corrective and preventative actions in collaboration with operators, quality, engineering, and maintenance teams.
- Support commissioning and start-up of new or modified processes.
- Process Control & Documentation:
- Develop and maintain Work Instructions (WI), batch records, and process documentation
- Create Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID) of existing and developing processes.
- Collaborate with controls and electrical engineers to integrate automation and data acquisition into chemical processes.
- Quality & Safety:
- Monitor process performance against quality specifications and support correction actions.
- Promote a safe working environment through process hazard awareness and adherence to company safety policies.
- Collaboration & Training:
- Collaborate with production operators, lab personnel, maintenance, and other engineering functions.
- Coordinate with vendors and contractors on process equipment and services.
- Provide technical training guidance to operators and technicians.
REQUIREMENT:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering.
Experience: 0-3 years in chemical process engineering, manufacturing, or related operations (internship or co-op experience considered).
Skills:
- Strong problem-solving skills with ability to apply root cause analysis.
- Knowledge of batch chemical processes, reactions, mixing, and liquid/solid separations.
- Hands-on aptitude in troubleshooting process equipment such as pumps, valves, tanks, mixers, centrifuges, dryers, filtration, heat exchangers, cooling towers, reverse osmosis, and process instrumentation.
- Familiarity with process documentations, work instructions, preventative maintenance programs.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and preferred experience in 2D CAD software.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.
- Ability to execute, manage multiple priorities, and work independently.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Capability to lift and move materials weighing up to 75 pounds.
Work Environment:
o Willingness to work in various environments, including office settings and on-site facilities.
- The role may require flexibility in working hours, including being on-call during non-standard working for urgent operations support.
